Holy Cross/Faith Memorial Episcopal Church rests under a calming canopy of tall pines and live oaks. What was once the site of a summer camp in the 1940's for disadvantaged African-American children is now home to the Smith Medical Clinic, a food bank, an adult learning center, after-school programs, a complex of 48 apartments for low-income senior citizens, and the only free public swimming pool in Georgetown County.
Coastal Community Foundation's Houghton Fund and the Public Trust Fund have provided grant support for Holy Cross over the years. Since 2004, the Foundation's affiliate - Frances P. Bunnelle Foundation - has been awarding grants to organizations in Georgetown County to improve the quality of life of its residents. Other organizations supported by the Bunnelle Foundation include Service Over Self, Tara Hall Home for Boys, Georgetown County First Steps and the Georgetown County Family YMCA.
