Field-Of-Interest FundsField-of-Interest funds offer flexibility to support the causes that donors are most passionate about, catering to interests as broad as "the environment" or as specific as residential programs for "at-risk" children. Donors determine the specific area of charitable concern and grants are made from the fund accordingly, at the discretion of the Foundation Board. Donors may direct that grants be allocated to one particular region or across the entire area served by the Foundation. At anytime, additional gifts to the fund will receive the maximum tax benefit allowed. If the fund is of sufficient size, a separate advisory selection committee may be formed. DONOR STORY: Astutely aware of an individual's potential to create change, Jeanne Edwards was committed to serving and giving, according to the needs around her in her beloved McClellanville community. A close friend, Patty Fulcher, recalled her generosity, "I know of one man who was dying of cancer whom Jeanne transported to Charleston for treatments several times a week for months." Jeanne's community leadership was also seen through her commitment to tutoring children and volunteering in her church. In her will, Ms. Edwards made a provision to create a Field-of-Interest fund at Coastal Community Foundation using the proceeds from the sale of her home. Today, this fund continues to help children in the McClellanville area. Coastal Community Foundation carefully screens charities that apply for grants from Ms. Edwards' fund, ensuring that now and forever it will benefit only those causes that she indicated were of most importance to her. |
