The Beaufort Fund Awards $500K to 49 Nonprofits and Foundation Opens First Regional Office
02/12/2009On Friday, February 13th a reception to grant half a million dollars in awards to 49 nonprofit organizations serving Beaufort, Colleton, Hampton, and Jasper Counties and also to celebrate the opening of Coastal Community Foundation’s first regional office will be held. The Foundation’s new Beaufort office at One Beaufort Town Center is the site for this celebration. Since its inception eleven years ago, three and a half million dollars have been awarded by The Beaufort Fund, one of 500 funds managed by Coastal Community Foundation. Established by a multi-million dollar gift, per the anonymous donor’s recommendation the annual grants pool has grown from $100,000 in 1998 to $500,000 this year. Also this year the last installment of three-year grants will be awarded, completing the second term of multi-year grants since the Fund’s establishment. Multi-year grant recipients received funding from the Beaufort Fund for five consecutive years before they were invited to apply for three-year grants in 2005, which are reflected in the total annual grants pool. “We are starting to see the donor’s long-term intentions for the Beaufort Fund be fulfilled”, praises Fred Washington, Jr., Beaufort Fund Advisory Committee Chair and Beaufort County School Board Chairman. “The achievement of two multi-year grant cycles reflects its permanence as a funding source, stability, and commitment to lasting community vitality.” Coastal Community Foundation’s investment in the region is augmented by the opening of a regional office. George Stevens, President & CEO of the Foundation, recognizes, “The presence of a full-time regional director in the southernmost counties positions us to best resource donors and nonprofits and fulfill our mission to foster philanthropy for the greater good.” The Beaufort Fund accepts applications from any nonprofit in Beaufort, Colleton, Hampton, or Jasper County.
