Recent NewsRELIEF FOR HAITI
01/19/2010The relief efforts in Haiti continue to be slow and inadequate as the need for immediate and basic human services are unrelenting and persistent. The devastating earthquake that struck Haiti on January 12th has caused a humanitarian disaster in the country and although the world is trying to respond, more help is needed specifically in the form of monetary donations. The best way to help is to make a monetary donation directly to a reputable organization that is experienced in disaster relief and has a presence in the country. Among the many excellent agencies providing these services are the following nonprofit organizations (with direct links to donate): American Jewish World Service: http://ajws.org/get_involved/take_action.html American Red Cross: http://www.redcross.org/ Click on the link or text "HAITI" to 90999 to donate $10 Catholic Relief Services: http://www.crs.org/ Clinton Bush Haiti Fund: http://www.clintonbushhaitifund.org/ Click on the link or text “HAITI” to 20222 to donate $10 International Orthodox Christian Charities: http://www.iocc.org/ National Nurses United: http://ajws.org/get_involved/take_action.html UNICEF: http://www.supportunicef.org/site/pp.asp?c=9fLEJSOALpE&b=1023561 Water Missions International: http://www.watermissions.org/ Doctors Without Borders www.doctorswithoutborders.org World Vision www.worldvision.org Save the Children www.savethechildren.org Oxfam America www.oxfamamerica.org If you are a Community Foundation donor who is interested in donating to a specific, but less well-known relief agency and would like to ensure its legitimacy, please call the Community Foundation's program staff at 843-723-3635.
